Cart and tote picking

Pick several orders at once into carts and totes, with every unit confirmed against its tote and cart sizes your admin defines.

Cart picking lets a picker work several orders at once with one tote per order on a cart, so items are sorted into orders as they are picked rather than at the pack bench. Turn it on under Settings → Cart picking, where you also set the cart sizes pickers choose from (1 to 20 orders). Then tick Pick by cart when you create a batch. A batch is picked one way or the other from the start.

  1. Start a cart. Choose your name and a cart size, then Start cart. The oldest orders that are not on a cart yet go in it.
  2. Print the tote labels and stick one on each tote. Each label shows the slot number, the order, and a barcode.
  3. Scan each item as you pick it. It goes into the tote the screen shows, and keeps going there until that order has everything it needs. When the screen asks for a different tote, scan that tote's label (or tap it). An item in the wrong tote is refused and the screen tells you where it belongs. Put one in by mistake? Undo last unit takes it back out.
  4. Can't find the rest of an item? Tap Can't find the rest. You will see which orders would be short. The ones you confirm are held for follow-up, and the rest of the cart carries on. When the item turns up, use I found it under Short items (or resolve the exception) and the order's pack list gets the unit back.
  5. Finish this cart when every tote is full or marked short, then start the next one. When all carts are finished, Mark picking complete moves the batch to packing.

Use By order at the top of any pick screen to see each order's items and tote. On a cart batch, + and − place or take back a unit. On a regular batch it shows the same items grouped by order, with units suggested to the oldest orders first.

Managers can release a cart a picker is holding, empty one tote, or dissolve a cart, always with a reason and after physically emptying the totes. A cleared tote's label is retired, so print a new one. When packing, each order shows which tote it is in. Orders that were short can still be packed with what is there, and they stay out of Fulfill until you resolve them.

Camera scanning does not work inside the Shopify admin, because browsers block the camera there. Open the batch's picker link in a browser tab on a phone to scan with its camera. A handheld scanner works anywhere.
